Henry Martin: What, if any, responsibility, do you feel as an artist, in what way, or toward whom?
Caroline Banks: It is through the process of exploration, research and discovery in my work that I believe I can make some contribution to the world. Being an artist means that I am my most complete self which is powerful and proactive. My work all comes back to memory: precious and treasured, elusive, lost, inaccurate yet true. I try to capture the essence of an experience, a moment that was transient but intensely essential to life. The choice of materials may evolve but the purpose remains the same.
