#63 Kathleen Brennan

Henry Martin: Kathleen Brennan is a photographer and filmmaker based in Taos, New Mexico. I had the good fortune to work with her on the documentary Agnes Martin Before The Grid (2016), which she directed. Brennan’s practice is diverse, and recently documentary in approach, exploring issues on the environment, as well as the preservation of cultural traditions.

Henry Martin: What does it mean to change?

Kathleen Brennan: To be alive.

Henry Martin: What is the greatest challenge you face as an artist?

Kathleen Brennan: Wanting to give up.

Henry Martin: Agnes Martin said, “We think we are very mundane, but we are all capable of fugues.” Respond.

Kathleen Brennan: I think that is very true.
